US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to fully accept the results of the congressional midterm elections, The New York Times reports.
In an interview with two reporters from the newspaper, Trump attributed the Republicans' defeat in the elections to the fact that he was not a candidate. He also said he was ready to cooperate with Democrats.
According to projections by US media outlets, the Democratic Party has gained control of both chambers of Congress — the House of Representatives and the Senate — in the midterm elections.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump acknowledged that the ongoing war in Iran played a role in the Republicans' defeat in the elections.
According to earlier reports by US media, commenting on the possibility of Democrats taking control of Congress next year, Trump emphasized that he was ready to veto their legislative initiatives if necessary.
In an interview with CBS News before polling stations closed across the country, Trump said he would welcome being called "Mr. Veto."
"I have the power to have the final say. It's called a 'veto'," the US President noted.
