Persons studying abroad not to be allowed to lead Islamic religious ceremonies in Azerbaijan

APA reports that it was discussed at the joint meeting of the parliament’s committee for human rights and committee for legal policy and statehood. Chairman of the committee for legal policy and statehood Ali Huseynov gave information about the amendments and annexes proposed to the law on “Freedom of religion” by him. He said the amendments mainly covered Articles 8 and 21 of the law.

According to the amendments and annexes proposed to the law, the persons leading the sacred places are appointed by the Caucasian Muslims Office basing on the opinion of the State Committee for Religious Organizations. Moreover, only the persons, who studied in Azerbaijan, are allowed to lead Islamic religious ceremonies. Following the discussions, the document was recommended to the parliament.

Draft law on “Personal data” was also discussed at the meeting. Huseynov said the draft law consisting of five chapters and 19 articles will regulate collection, protection of personal data, formation of personal data segment of the national information space, determine rights and tasks of individuals and legal entities working in this field.
