“Some Russian media outlets are publishing inappropriate, threatening and insulting materials and opinions against the Azerbaijani state, people, the country’s leadership and our prominent figures. We believe that this is completely contrary to the principles of civilized journalism, ethical norms and human values. Unfortunately, such cases are being consistently observed in Russia’s information space," the Press Council said in a statement, APA reports.
The Press Council considers such cases to be completely contrary to the spirit of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as media relations.
“We would also like to note that the Azerbaijani media have always been distinguished by their sensitive approach to issues related to neighboring countries, including Russia, and have not given place to opinions and claims that go beyond professional principles.
Therefore, the occurrence of such unpleasant cases in Russia’s information space is causing deep regret and justified dissatisfaction among the Azerbaijani public,” the statement said.
The Azerbaijan Press Council strongly condemns these incidents. At the same time, the Council appeals to the Russian media community and society as a whole, calling for serious measures to be taken against actions aimed at damaging Azerbaijan-Russia media relations and, in general, friendly relations between the peoples.
The Press Council once again stated that insulting remarks and threatening claims against the Azerbaijani state, people and their prominent representatives are unacceptable.
“The systematic appearance of such materials, even amidst the strict legislative regulation of the Russian information space, is tantamount to their endorsement at the level of the Russian Federation's state policy.
The Press Council once again reminds those who make such statements that they bear legal responsibility,” the statement said.
