“We are currently in a very complex geopolitical situation,” Dmitro Shlapachenko, newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, said during a panel session at the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, APA reports.
He noted that climate has no borders: “This is an undeniable fact. I have seen with my own eyes what dust storms coming from deserts in Central Asia can cause. Therefore, I believe that we must show solidarity in a situation where difficult political divisions exist.
For me, solidarity means that when we talk about climate, we do not mean only climate itself. We are talking about social development, the economy, and the prevention of wars. All of these are interconnected. Competition for natural resources will intensify further.
Therefore, for me, the key word is solidarity. If we want to succeed from COP29 to COP31, we must rely precisely on this concept.”
