Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media confirmed on Thursday previous reports claiming that Alphabet Inc.'s Google restricted the creation of new accounts in the country, APA reports citing Breaking News.
"The Ministry of Communications confirms that Google has limited the creation of new accounts. Telecom operators have also recorded a significant reduction in the number of SMS sent by the company to Russian users. SMS confirmation as a second authorization method for previously created Google accounts is still working, but there is no certainty that this feature will remain in effect," a representative of the ministry told reporters.
Additionally, the ministry advised users of Google services to make backup copies of their data, as well as to switch to alternative methods of two-factor authentication in the systems or to use national platforms.
