Russia has demanded sanctions relief from the United States as part of talks on a possible energy ceasefire with Ukraine, US and Ukrainian officials familiar with the negotiations told The Kyiv Independent, APA reports.
According to the report, Moscow is also trying to link the initiative to the issue of a ceasefire in the Black Sea.
The demands come as Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. One senior Ukrainian defense official said Moscow is trying to inflict as much damage as possible on Ukraine in order to strengthen its position ahead of possible negotiations.
Amid Russian attacks, Kyiv is already facing daily power outages. A Russian attack on October 8 caused widespread power outages in Ukraine’s capital, which has a population of more than three million.
