3600 people live in 5245ha-area village. There are 818 houses in the village. People of the village are mainly engaged in farming and cattle breeding. Though there is 3000ha area for planting, the people have problems in irrigation. A canal called Dehne by local people was constructed from Georgian Khram river during Soviet period. But the water of the canal was cut off four-five years ago in Georgia. Therefore the village residents had difficulties in irrigating the area for a long time. The problem was partially solved in August. But the village which borders on Armenia and Georgia still has unsolved problems. The village is not supplied with natural gas and lacks for drinking water. Water pipeline had been constructed from Khram river before, but later water pumps and underground pipelines got out of order, and this caused serious problems in the village. Now the village residents bring drinking water in special trucks. There is no natural gas in the village for 15 years. The people say that 40 percent of the village was supplied with natural gas during Soviet period.
After natural gas was halted in the village, underground and above ground pipelines remained untapped and were damaged. These pipelines’ system should be constructed for supplying the village with natural gas. But the residents have to meet their demands to drinking water and natural gas on their own benefit. He said that each family has to pay AZN140-160 for buying drinking water and wood. And it comprises AZN 1600-1800 in a year. AZN1 million should be allocated for solving fuel and drinking water problem of village Shikhli II composed of 818 houses. Executive representative of Shikhli II village Isa Tanriverdiyev told the APA problems the village faces are about to be solved.
“All the problems of the village are about to be solved consistently. Gas pipeline will be constructed as from March, 2008. Measures are being taken for solving problem of drinking water of the village. The construction of drinking water pipeline has already been designed and new water pipeline will be constructed as from next quarter of 2008,” he said.
Gas pipelines are intended to be constructed in 10 villages of Gazakh region and these villages will be provided with natural gas in 2008. And one of them is village II Shikhli. /APA/
