Winners of small grant projects on journalists’ researches made public

Elmar Huseynov Fund ended first stage of project implemented at the support of US Embassy in Azerbaijan, the names of winners-journalists who will carry out research in the frame of the project were publicized, APA reports.
Founder of the Fund Shahbaz Khuduoglu said that 5 juries and 2 experts appreciated the projects. He said that $ 300 has been allocated for newspaper journalists who will carry out research, $ 500 for radio and TV journalists.
US Embassy public affairs officer Jonathan Henick stressed that implementation of this project will also be sample to other researcher-journalists. He said that US Embassy will continue to support free media. Following this, the names of the winners of the project were publicized and money allotted for projects were presented to the winners. Event attendees did not meet one of the winners of the project Gantural’s carrying out research on veil problem unambiguously.
Haji Ilgar Ibrahimoglu, leading coordinator of DEVAMM (Center for Freedom of Conscience and Worship) objected to Gantural’s carrying out research in this subject taking his denying Islam religion into account.
“No one should carry out disgusting experiments under Elmar’s name,” he said.
The leadership of Elmar Huseynov Fund stated that this objection will be debated. /APA/
