Hearing “Freedom of the Media in the OSCE Region†was held in the meeting of US Congress Helsinki Commission on December 13. Issue on media freedom in Azerbaijan was also spoken in the framework of the discussions, APA reports quoting website of Helsinki Commission.
It was noted in the debates that there were appeals regarding necessity of adoption of law on “defamation†in Azerbaijan, eliminating imprisonment for libel for several times. Anxiety was expressed on the increase of the number of imprisoned journalists in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani government was called on reviewing issues on media again./APA/
