Press Council appeals to Prosecutor General and Interior Minister for investigation of arrest of correspondent of Azadlig radio

He stated that Press Council has already sent letter to Prosecutor General and Interior Minister on this fact. Letter envisages investigation of issue operatively and objectively and making proper decision on it soon.
Anxiety was expressed on the arrest of Ilgar Nasibov, correspondent of Azadlig radio to Nakhichevan at the press conference today and it was stressed that appeal was addressed to various international organizations on it.
Nasibov’s wife Malahat Nasibova stated that Resource Center in Nakhichevan and their house were searched on December 6, computers and documents were confiscated. Search was carried out on complain of parliamentarian Isa Habibbeyli. Malahat Nasibova and correspondent of Azadlig radio Muhammad Rzayev were released after being interrogated.
Head of OSCE Office in Baku Jose Luis Herrero Ansola said today that OSCE is very anxious about imprisonment of journalists in Azerbaijan. He said that Miklos Haraszti, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media attentively observed these processes. Mr. Ansola stressed he has no information about when Mr. Haraszti will make his next visit to the region.
MP from Nakhchivan Isa Habibbayli also commented on the detention of Nasibov. MP said that correspondent of “Azadliq” radio was not detained for professional activity.
“He was detained for intervention in pulling construction down. Journalist like Jalil Mammadguluzada is from Nakhchivan. That is why Nakhchivan people value journalists,” he said.
Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov said that none of the imprisoned journalists in Azerbaijan were detained for their professional activity. /APA/
