Imprisoned correspondent of Azadliq newspaper Mirza Sakit’s wife Rana Zahidova and head of Rights Defense Committee Emin Huseynli held a press conference on Mirza Sakit and advisor of Nota-Bene Faramaz Novruzoglu, who are going on hunger strike, APA reports.
Rana Zahidova said that Mirza Sakit’s health deteriorated.
“Every time I talked to the chief of the jail he used to say that Sakit feels normal. But no one talked to me today. We were told that he feels bad,” she said.
Rana Zahidova called on rights defenders and media representatives to visit them.
Head of the Defense Committee Huseynli quoting Faramaz Novruzoglu’s wife Tahira Allahverdiyeva, said that his health also deteriorated. He said that Faramaz Novruzoglu and Mirza Sakit want to meet ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, officers of National Security Ministry and rights defenders. The appeal demands to provide conditions for correspondents of Yeni Musavat and Azadliq newspapers, APA, Turan agencies, BBC and Radio Liberty, so that they can visit jail #14.
Protesters also demand dismissal of chief of jail #14 Ershad Huseynov and other officials of the jail. This appeal is addressed to National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov, Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov, Deputy Minister and chief of Penitentiary Service Nazim Alakbarov.
Huseynli also said rights defenders have not yet visited the prisoners after they started hunger strike, though he asked them. It was noted that Mirza Sakit, Faramaz Allahverdiyev and prisoner Rustaveli Guliyev, who supports them, have not stopped hunger strike. /APA/
