Some parliamentarians to meet Prosecutor General for bailing out Ganimat Zahid

Director General of the newspaper Azer Ahmadov said conciliatory measures should be taken in order to release Ganimat Zahid.
“No need for irritating and severe measures. Ganimat Zahid suffers from rheumatism and we want him to be bailed out,” he said.
Editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat newspaper Rauf Arifoglu offered establishing Defense Committee for Freedom of Expression in order to protect the rights of journalists.
“It would be better to set up an effective organization dealing with the problem, than establishing defense committees separately,” he said.
The editor-in-chief also offered to delay the rally scheduled for December 10 and to have meetings with the representatives of international organizations.
Arzu Abdullayeva, chief of Azerbaijan National Committee of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly offered establishing an organization for coordinating forces.
Parliamentarian Panah Huseyn supported the proposal on establishing Defense Committee for Freedom of Expression.
Director of Institute of Reporters’ Freedom and Security Emin Huseynov said there is divergence among media representatives and it will have an impact on the efficiency of December 10 rally.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Karimli said it is inexpedient to exaggerate divergence. He also offered setting up a unique defense committee.
There were also proposals on a group of parliamentarians’ meeting with Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov for bailing out Ganimat Zahid and holding an event with participation of ambassadors of European countries. Fundraising started for the working group of Defense Committee for Freedom of Expression.
The working group set up due to Ganimat Zahid’s arrest had a meeting. /APA/
