Mr. Amashov noted that a lot of activities have been carried out in Azerbaijan for the development of media, freedom of expression and media and underlined that a lot of facts can be mentioned on liberalization of the legislation and some issues.
“Azerbaijani media has enough problems. 7 journalists have been imprisoned. I believe that measures taken for their release will give a result soon. We are also worried about courts’ imprisoning journalists for libel and insult. I think it can be solved through fine as in several countries. Our media contributes to ongoing processes in the country despite of several difficulties. If these processes quicken, society will derive benefit from it. Therefore effective measures should be taken for the insurance of freedom of media. The measures should be of complex character and freedom of media should be arranged. It covers strengthening material-technical base of media, achieving its economic independence, increase of professionalism of journalists and other issues,” he said. /APA/
