Baku Metropolitan CJSC, one of the companies under AZCON Holding, has expanded its train fleet and brought four new generation train sets (20 wagons) to Baku in order to increase passenger satisfaction and service quality, Emil Ahmadov, the advisor to the chairman of the Baku Metropolitan CJSC told journalists, APA-Economics reports.

He noted that these fourth-generation trains are planned to be put into operation to replace the wagons whose service life is due to expire in 2025.

“The new trains have been designed based on the latest technologies, taking into account the complex terrain of the metro and the climate conditions of the capital. The technical completion of the assembly and manufacturing of the wagons is carried out at the ‘Khojasan’ electric depot, during which equipment ensuring control, safety, and passenger comfort is installed. After the final stage of adjustment and testing, the wagons are put into operation. In the new phase, the newly assembled trains undergo adjustment, testing, and regulation works in accordance with standards and are prepared for deployment on the lines.”

E. Ahmadov noted that, based on the agreement reached, by the end of this year, 10 more wagons (2 train sets) will be delivered to the Baku metro.

“In the same way, those wagons will also be assembled, and after adjustment and testing, they will be put into operation. Thus, by the end of 2025, the number of new generation wagons will reach 180 (36 train sets). Let me remind you that according to the “State program for improving transport infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030,” approved by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, it is planned to purchase and deploy 299 more new generation wagons on the metro lines during the specified period. Currently, planned work is ongoing in this direction.”

“Currently, 66 train sets (347 wagons) are operating in the Baku metro, of which 150 are new generation wagons. Wagons whose service life has expired on the Baku metro lines are replaced with new ones according to a pre-planned schedule,” he added.
