South Korea holds emergency security meeting after North Korean missile launches

The National Security Office at the presidential office has convened an emergency security meeting after the South Korean military detected multiple ballistic missiles fired from North Korea on Monday morning, KBS World reports.

The office inspected the military’s readiness posture and the security situation with regard to the missile launches and called for a response commensurate with their impact on national security.

The office urged Pyongyang to immediately halt the missile launches, calling them a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions that undermines security on the Korean Peninsula.

Earlier, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said multiple ballistic missiles had been fired from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea at around 9:20 a.m.

The North previously conducted a missile launch from the Wonsan area toward the East Sea on October 3.
