Minister Ali Abbasov: All areas have been provided with telephones in Azerbaijan

Ali Abbasov, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, said that revenue from the ICT sector rose by 28.1% in the country during 2008, triple the average rate in the world. According to him, income growth was 25.3% and in the IT sector and 6.5% in the postal sector.
In addition, provision of all areas across the country with telephones was completed with access to landline service made available in more than 500 rural areas in 2008.
Telephone service was also made accessible in small villages with 5 families.
The number of cell-phone users per 100 people is 68, and more than 21 000 subscribers use CDMA services in 24 regions.
Rashad Nabiyev, Finance and Accounting Officer of the Ministry, reported about the financial performance in 2008.
Aliyarov Temirov, Regulation Officer of the Ministry, delivered a report about the measures taken to trim down mobile phone service prices.
Rufat Gulmammadov, Information Society Development Officer of the Ministry, added that internet service prices will be further cut down in the future.
