Azerbaijan will soon select seaport designer

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport will select a firm for project-designing work for a proposed seaport project in Alat, near Baku by January 15, 2009.
Musa Panahov, Deputy Minister of Transport, said an invitation has been sent to several firms for the bidding.
Bids have to be submitted to the Government of Azerbaijan in early January.
The tender winner will be announced on January 9.
The seaport project will have three overlapping phases- 2008-2011, 2011-2013 and 2012-2015.
There will be 11 berths, 6 of which will be constructed at the first phase.
The port will handle 11.6 million tons of cargo in 2015.
The first draft project of the seaport was designed by South Korean GS Engineering & Construction Co.
Azerbaijan booted the South Korean company out of the seaport construction project because it overstated the cost of the project.
