A particularly large quantity of narcotics was prevented from being transported through Azerbaijan in transit as a result of comprehensive operational-search and customs control measures carried out by employees of the Astara Customs Department, APA reports, citing the State Customs Committee.
According to the committee, a truck transporting a cargo of lettuce and celery from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation was stopped at the import inspection lane of the Astara customs post and subjected to customs control.
The vehicle was inspected using a stationary X-ray scanner and a customs detection dog, revealing packages concealed in the cargo.
During the inspection, 79 kilograms and 740 grams of marijuana, with a net weight, were discovered in 230 celery-shaped packages concealed from customs control.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
