At around 11:00 p.m. on December 15, signs of a violation of the state border from the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the Republic of Azerbaijan were detected in the service area of the “Lankaran” border detachment of the Border Troops of the State Border Service, the Press Center of the State Border Service told APA.
It was reported that the border outpost was put on alert under the “To arms” command, and the service area was completely sealed off.
As a result of comprehensive border search and operational measures, two residents of Lankaran district were detained while attempting to bring a total of 31 kilograms of narcotics into the country by illegally crossing the state border. The detainees were identified as Gadir Shahbazov, born in 1985, and Zamig Babayev, born in 1986.
Operational and investigative measures are ongoing in connection with the incident.
