Armed group rendered harmless by Azerbaijanâ€™s security forces was planning to commit terrorist attack against President Ilham Aliyev

Baku â€“ APA. The armed group rendered harmless by the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan was also planning to commit terrorist attack against President Ilham Aliyev. According to APA, the statement released by the public relations center of the ministry today reads that during the operations it was identified that Vugar Padarov and other members of armed gang, which was led by him, were tasked to commit terrorist attack against the Azerbaijani President during his visit to the north-western regions in April this year, as well as to attack the law-enforcement bodies, kill the employees of these structures and seize the ammunitions in the administrative buildings, explode several sanctuaries, mosques and the shrines belonging to the other religious confessions.

Elmir Nuraliyev and Padarov carried out reconnaissance work for the purpose of committing the abovementioned terrorist acts in Baku. They were tasked to determine the attack targets, including schemes, working regimes, number of staff of the buildings of several state agencies, sniper positions and the other factors.

The public relations center of the Ministry of National Security issued statement today reporting about the prevention of terrorist and provocative actions in Baku on the eve of the Eurovision 2012 song contest. One of the main goals of the disarmed transnational criminal group was to commit terrorist and provocative actions in Baku on the eve of and during the contest. 40 members of the group have been detained so far.
