Azerbaijan signs Third Additional Protocol to European Convention on Extradition

Press service of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan told APA that Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov visited Strasbourg on May 14 to sign the document on behalf of Azerbaijan. Secretary General of the Council of Europe ThorbjÃ¸rn Jagland, Deputy Secretary General Maud de Boer-Buquicchio and other officials attended the signing ceremony. After the ceremony, Fikret Mammadov met with Jagland. They discussed the reforms in Azerbaijan, cooperation with the Council of Europe, including work done for modernization of the court system, as well as improvement of legislation, development of freedom of press and civil society.

On May 14, Fikret Mammadov also met with President of the European Court of Human Rights Nicolas Bratza. They stressed the work done for the fulfillment of the European Courtâ€™s decisions. Bratza said Azerbaijan was not among the problematic countries. He welcomed the adoption of National Action Program in Azerbaijan.

Member of the European Court of Human Rights from Azerbaijan Khanlar Hajiyev and Secretary of the Court Eric Friberg also attended the meeting.
