Reason of activation of earthquakes in Azerbaijanâ€™s Shamakhy region publicized

Director General of the Republic seismological Service Center of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Gurban Yetirmishli told APA that the rocks are squeezing in that area.

â€œWe are making observations. Earthquake shocks occur as a result of squeezing of the rocks. Thatâ€™s why, Shamakhy-Ismayilli is considered the most seismically active region of Azerbaijan,â€ he said.

Yetirmishli refuted the version that the activation of earthquakes is connected with weather conditions.

Director General 5-8 earthquake shocks occur in Azerbaijan within a day.
â€œThe magnitude of most of them is low. The stations of the center can even record the quakes with 0.1 magnitude. Information about earthquakes with more than 3 magnitude are posted on the website of the center. Generally, this is not dangerous. Energy release prevents strong earthquakes,â€ he said.

Two earthquakes happened in Shamakhy today, one on March 12.
