Yerevan had agreed to hold a meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan within the framework of the 31st Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Ani Badalyan, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, told "Sputnik Armenia", APA reports.
Note that the information was released by APA, citing diplomatic sources, stating that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had proposed holding such a meeting, but Baku rejected this offer.
The report mentioned that Blinken insisted on mediating for the meeting to take place.
Through this initiative, the US Secretary of State aimed to reintroduce the United States into the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"However, the Azerbaijani side categorically refused Blinken's proposal to hold a meeting.
The reason for this is that the Biden Administration, in general, pursues an unjust and biased policy towards Azerbaijan.
"Therefore, Azerbaijan does not want the U.S. to participate in the peace agenda at all and does not consider it appropriate," a diplomatic source said.
The report emphasized that this meeting did not take place precisely because Azerbaijan refused US mediation.
