Argentina will take legal action against several companies over oil exploration and production near the disputed Malvinas (Falkland) Islands without authorization from Buenos Aires, the administration of Argentine President Javier Milei announced, APA reports.
According to the statement, Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Minister Pablo Quirno will file a criminal complaint against Navitas Petroleum Development & Production Ltd., Navitas Petroleum Atlantic United, Navitas Petroleum LP, JHI Associates Inc., and Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas.
Argentina’s Foreign Ministry says the companies violated national legislation by obtaining licenses from the British administration on the islands to explore for and produce hydrocarbons in the North Malvinas Basin.
The Argentine government also plans to pursue legal action against shareholders of the companies involved.
