There was no need for Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, said Novruz Mammadov, the assistant to the Azerbaijani president for foreign policy, head of department, APA reported.
He noted the Azerbaijani side made a statement on the level of the foreign ministry on the Jerusalem issue and President Ilham Aliyev declared his position at the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.
“This step does not contribute to intergovernmental international relations. On the contrary, it aggravates these relations. We are with Islamic countries, OIC countries and we think that the Jerusalem issue should be solved within the framework of international law,” Mammadov said.
