German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, during which the two discussed ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius told reporters, APA reportsz
"The interlocutors recalled the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, the 25th anniversary of which was last week. The German Chancellor emphasized the special bond between Germans and Americans," Cornelius said.
He also noted that the German prime minister and the US president "exchanged views on further steps to end" the conflict in Ukraine. "Chancellor Merz praised Congress for passing the Graham Act on sanctions," Cornelius asserted.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, he said, was also a topic of discussion. "An agreement was reached on the prompt opening of both waterways," the German cabinet representative concluded.
