"Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC (ADY), an AZCON Holding company, continues efforts to renew its locomotive fleet and boost freight capacity, APA-Economics reports.
Seven modern AC50-type freight locomotives, manufactured by China's CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd., have been delivered to Baku. The mainline locomotives are equipped with advanced technology and innovative traction systems, notable for high traction power and a large fuel capacity. They enable more efficient and safe handling of heavy freight trains and come fitted with modern control and safety systems.
A 90-day maintenance interval allows for more reliable, uninterrupted operation. The main air reservoir holds 2,000 liters of compressed air and includes two compressors, enabling the hauling of longer trains.
The locomotives can also be coupled together in pairs and operated by a single locomotive crew, allowing more freight to be carried by rail, improving operational efficiency in managing heavy freight trains, and enabling more effective use of the locomotives.
The AC50 model meets the Stage IIIA environmental standards set by the International Union of Railways (UIC), allowing unrestricted use in areas with special emissions requirements. The new locomotives will be used for freight transport along international transport corridors.
Azerbaijan Railways will continue work on renewing its locomotive fleet, expanding the technical capacity of its rolling stock for both freight and passenger transport, and providing flexible and safe service amid growing freight volumes along international transport corridors. Negotiations are currently underway for the next phase, involving the purchase of 14 additional freight locomotives.
