Traffic Police issue appeal to drivers ahead of Formula 1 Grand Prix

The Baku City State Traffic Police Department has issued an appeal to road users in connection with the 2026 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, APA reports.

The appeal states that, in order to prevent traffic congestion in the capital in connection with the 2026 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix to be held in Baku, citizens traveling to the capital from villages and settlements adjacent to Baku, as well as from other cities and districts of the country, are requested to give preference to public transport from September 24 to 26. Capital residents are also asked to use private cars as little as possible during the race, travel to the city center only by public transport, and refrain entirely from driving vehicles that have been in operation for a long time or are in poor technical condition.

It was reported that a new transit corridor will be established from the intersection of Uzeyir Hajibeyli and Pushkin streets towards Bulbul Avenue.

It was noted that traffic restrictions will also be imposed in certain areas in connection with the race.

The initial restriction will come into effect on September 19 at 21:00. It will be imposed on the section of Pushkin Street at its intersections with Uzeyir Hajibeyli Street and Neftchilar Avenue. The restriction will remain in place until the end of the event.

According to the Traffic Management Plan, the streets along the Baku City Circuit and the areas covered by the track will be closed to traffic from September 20 at 01:00 until September 28 at 08:00.

Entry to and exit from restricted zones will only be possible with a Residential Access Permit. On September 21 and 22, the entry and exit points listed below will be open to traffic from 07:00 to 09:00 in the morning and from 18:00 to 20:00 in the evening, without stopping or parking.

On September 23, the specified roads will be open to traffic from 07:00 to 09:00 in the morning and from 20:00 to 22:00 in the evening.

Entry points:

- From Salyan Highway towards Neftchilar Avenue and Azneft Circle;

- From M. Lermontov Street towards UN 50th Anniversary Street and Istiglaliyyat Street;

- From Bulbul Avenue, turning right towards Zarifa Aliyeva Street and continuing straight towards Neftchilar Avenue;

- From the intersection of Nizami and Pushkin streets towards Khagani Street;

- From the intersection of Uzeyir Hajibeyli and Pushkin streets towards Bulbul Avenue.

Exit points:

- From Neftchilar Avenue towards Baku Sea Port, Port Baku Mall and Crescent Mall;

- From Istiglaliyyat Street towards Azerbaijan Avenue;

- From Neftchilar Avenue towards Azneft Circle, Deniz Mall and Salyan Highway.

During the specified period, vehicle movement, with the exception of public transport and heavy goods vehicles, will be ensured through designated transit corridors.

While the transit corridors are open, parking and passenger pick-up and drop-off will not be permitted, except in emergencies. The speed limit in the transit corridors will be 50 km/h.
