“Today we talked about the approach of the West to the issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following the meeting of the Regional Cooperation Platform held in the "3+3" format in Istanbul. APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
According to him, Russia, Iran and Türkiye have proposed Azerbaijan and Armenia to use the "3+3" platform to concluded the work on the peace treaty: "We informed about the work done by the heads of states, foreign ministers, and deputy prime ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in a tripartite format which was jointly established by them."
Lavrov emphasized that there are issues regarding the Armenia-Türkiye regulation process: "Russia actively helped to start this process. Our Iranian neighbors also joined us. No meeting is currently scheduled for this process. Our Armenian colleagues took a break. They believe that direct negotiations with the Turks are necessary first. It seems to me that in any case it is connected to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. That's why we have suggested that these issues should be reviewed in a comprehensive manner. Russia and Iran, in turn, are ready to help in this."
