“I met with AFFA secretary-general Fuad Esedov and we exchanged views on the penalty UEFA imposed on AFFA for Sergey Sokolov disqualified for 18 months. I got acquainted with the decision passed by AFFA Disciplinary Committee and agreed to pay the fine”, Garabakh club general director Ehrah Chekilel told APA-Sport.
He didn’t agree with Committee decision that the club is guilty for the penalty.
“The club is not guilty even if Sokolov took the illicit preparation in our camp. It was cleared out that the player secretly took the medicine. We condemn the player no matter whether he did it in secret or with someone. Garabakh has never faced problem with doping. We have agreed to pay the penalty in order not to put AFFA in more difficult circumstances. Besides, we advise other clubs to be more attentive in such cases”, he underscored.
UEFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed 8000 Swiss franc for Sokolov. Chelikel noted that the deal with the player expires at season end. He said this played important role in club’s decision.
“If Sokolov stayed in the club, he would pay monthly salary. We are going to pay the fine by means of his salaries as he has already left the country”, he noted. /APA-Sport/
