Garabakh is going to pay the fine imposed on the AFFA by the UEFA Disciplinary Committee for Azeri squad ex-defender Sergey Sokolov who failed blood test after Belgium – Azerbaijan match in 11 October, 2006, in European championship qualifying, APA-Sport reports.
The decision was made at the meeting of AFFA Disciplinary Committee.
Garabakh club defender Sokolov was suspended from all competitions for 18 months – till June 10, 2008. The AFFA was fined 8000 Swiss franc as the player was also the member of national squad. But it was clear after the investigation of UEFA Doping Committee that neither AFFA leadership nor team doctor Ramiz Kerimov was to blame for test result. That’s why UEFA made a decision to free the doctor from responsibility. The investigation also found out that Sokolov had a three-month cure under Garabakh doctors’ control after he had received injury in the match against Zimbru. Considering UEFA decision, AFFA Disciplinary Committee passed a decision on Garabakh club to pay a fine. /APA-Sport/
