The death toll from heavy rains and flooding in Spain has reached 223, as confirmed by Transport and Sustainable Mobility Minister Oscar Puente on Friday. Puente reported that 215 fatalities occurred in the Valencian Community, seven in Castilla–La Mancha, and one in Andalusia, APA reports citing foreign media.
Additionally, 78 people are still missing, and nearly 50 bodies remain unidentified. "It is reasonable to assume that these figures are related, although we have not abandoned hope of finding any of the missing alive," he said on X.
Over the weekend, residents in flood-hit Valencia expressed frustration during a visit by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, throwing mud and other objects at them.
