The European Union has declined Ukraine’s request for an additional €220 million in financial assistance to support farmers affected by problems stemming from the blockade of Ukrainian ports.
According to European Pravda, citing European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammert, Ukraine’s Agriculture Ministry requested the grant funding in early August to compensate small and medium-sized agricultural producers for interest payments on loans.
However, instead of allocating additional funds, the EU said it would continue supporting Ukrainian farmers through existing projects.
Ukrainian authorities previously warned that logistical difficulties caused by disruptions at Black Sea ports could halve the country’s agricultural exports in 2026–2027.
Problems with port operations have also contributed to a transport crisis at the Polish-Ukrainian border, where around 6,500 trucks are reportedly waiting to cross, with delays reaching up to seven days.
