Azerbaijan's former consul general in St. Petersburg charged with smuggling

Azerbaijan's former consul general in St. Petersburg has been charged with smuggling, APA reports.

According to information, former consul Sultan Gasimov is accused of large-scale gold smuggling.

The criminal case was investigated by the prosecutor's office. He was charged under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. The investigation has been completed and the case has been sent to court.

The case will be heard by the Baku Court on Grave Crimes in the near future.

Note that Sultan Mahammad Gasimov was appointed Azerbaijan's first consul general in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation, in 2009. He was recalled from the post in 2016.

On May 3, 2016, he was appointed Azerbaijan's consul general in St. Petersburg.

He was recalled from the post on October 21, 2024.
