German companies are not sufficiently informed about the economic development of Azerbaijan, said Nargis Wieck, executive director of German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan), at the “German-Azerbaijani Export Finance Conference 2025” held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, very few German companies are aware of the dynamic economic development of Azerbaijan and do not participate more actively in these processes. “In my conversations with partners in Germany and Azerbaijan, I received different answers. Many German companies are not sufficiently informed about the development in the country, and Azerbaijani companies consider German technologies too expensive,” N. Wieck said.
She noted that although government representatives say that the economic environment has improved, they have difficulty understanding why cooperation is difficult. Although companies are already operating, there is a slowdown in decision-making. Banks, on the other hand, want to finance more projects, but they emphasize that suitable opportunities are limited.
The AHK official said that the Chamber has identified specific projects to strengthen cooperation between Germany and Azerbaijan. According to her, the conference provides an opportunity for project owners to present their export opportunities and for financial institutions of both countries to establish direct contacts.
N. Wieck added that investment decisions are not based only on price, but the overall package is also important. German companies' investment in innovative technologies, reliable trade support tools, services, and human capital - knowledge and experience transfer - makes them a desirable partner for Azerbaijan's diversification and sustainable industrial development.
