Event held in Ganja to mark 139th anniversary of Russian Orthodox Church

An event has been held on the occasion of the 139th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox Church named after Alexander Nevsky, located in Ganja, APA's local bureau reports.

The event was attended by the head of the Baku and Azerbaijan Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, employees of the Office of the Head of the Ganja City Executive Authority and the Ganja-Dashkasan Regional Department of the State Committee on Religious Associations, as well as Christian residents of the city.

During the religious ceremony, church bells were rung, and religious rites were performed. The ceremony was conducted by Bishop Alexy of Baku and Azerbaijan.

Bishop Alexy of Baku and Azerbaijan noted that Orthodox Christians living here highly appreciate the policy pursued by the Azerbaijani government on interethnic and interreligious relations.

“As Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia recently said, Azerbaijan is an example for the world of tolerance, multi-confessionalism and the coexistence of different peoples,” he noted.

Recall that the service was led by Bishop Alexy (Smirnov) of the Baku and Azerbaijan Diocese.

Note that the Alexander Nevsky Church was built in Ganja in 1887. The church is under the jurisdiction of the Baku Diocese.
