Ford Motor Co. is suspending its joint-venture operations in Russia, citing concern over the invasion of Ukraine and joining a cohort of other global auto makers that have pledged to halt business in the country, APA reports citing The Wall Street Journal.
“While we don’t have significant operations in Ukraine, we do have a strong contingent of Ukrainian nationals working for Ford around the world,” the company said Tuesday.
The U.S. auto maker had diminished its presence in Russia before the conflict, now only focusing on commercial-van manufacturing and sales through its joint venture with Soller PJSC. Ford holds a minority stake in the joint venture.
Ford sold about 21,000 vehicles in Russia last year, according to research firm Wards Intelligence. Sollers made about 20,000 trucks in the country in 2021, the firm said.
Ford said it would donate $100,000 to the Global Giving Ukraine Relief Fund to support those displaced during the attack.
