Germany's Uniper company intends to double its purchase of Azerbaijani gas within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor, the company's representative in Azerbaijan Rashad Huseynli told APA-Economics.
According to him, the company currently buys 1.5 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas per year and it may double the volumes.
"We want to increase the volumes, and negotiations are ongoing in this regard. However, since the discussions are still at the negotiation stage, I cannot disclose the details," Rashad Huseynli said.
He noted that the increase in volumes will mainly depend on the capacity of the infrastructure (its expansion - ed.), and SOCAR needs support in this matter, especially from the European Union.
Rashad Huseynli also added that currently, all financial institutions are hesitant to invest in gas projects and prefer the green energy projects.
"But we have the intention, and if successful, we are ready to increase," the Uniper representative stated.
Note that since December 31, 2020, Azerbaijani gas was started to be transported to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is part of the Southern Gas Corridor.
