Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov attended the discussions organized by the Atlantic Council - one of the prestigious analytical centers operating in Washington, the Ministry told APA.

The energy resources of Azerbaijan, which is located in an important geopolitical position, especially the strategic role played with the Southern Gas Corridor in the security of energy supply to Europe, were discussed in the discussions held in the business lunch format moderated by Landon Derentz, senior director and Morningstar Chair for Global Energy Security at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center. As a COP29 country, Azerbaijan's policy on accelerating the energy transition at the national and global level, decarbonization, reduction of methane emissions and climate financing, and the course regarding the development of renewable energy were viewed.

As the Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov emphasized that Azerbaijan's independent energy policy was developed based on a close partnership with the United States from the beginning, he noted that this partnership is of exceptional importance in the realization of Azerbaijan’s energy security initiatives, in bringing the oil and gas resources of the Caspian Sea to the world markets.

The Minister noted that Azerbaijan has taken important steps in the direction of becoming a supplier of renewable energy after oil and gas, and in the direction of realization of a huge green energy corridor to transport this energy to Europe.

The reform of the energy industry was strongly influenced by the state policy of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which prioritized the development of Azerbaijan as a green growth country by 2030. The development of liberated territories as a green energy zone, the implementation of industrial-scale green energy projects with international energy companies, the implementation of reforms promoting radical changes in the energy field, as well as the participation of Azerbaijan in initiatives per the reduction of emissions show the determination of Azerbaijan in the implementation of the green agenda. The minister noted the importance of global solidarity for financing related to the energy transition and to obtain climate goals. It was stated that Azerbaijan will successfully lead international efforts to accelerate the development of green energy and maintain ecological balance.

It should be noted that the event was attended by Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America, Khazar Ibrahim, Laura Lochman, Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy, state officials on energy and climate issues, representatives of international energy companies and organizations.
