Canadian poet, writer, essayist and translator Anne Carson was born in Toronto on June 21, 1950. She is also a scholar of classical literature and a university professor. Carson studied at the University of Toronto and earned her doctorate in 1981. She has taught at prestigious universities in the United States and Canada, including Princeton University, New York University and the University of Michigan. In her work, she combines ancient Greek mythology with modern literature, synthesizing poetry, prose and essay genres in a distinctive way. Her best-known works include Autobiography of Red, The Beauty of the Husband, Nox and Red Doc>. For her literary work, she has twice received the Griffin Poetry Prize, as well as the T. S.
