A group of international travelers led by Charles Veley, founder of the world-renowned Most Traveled People (MTP) club, has begun a visit to Karabakh and East Zangezur, APA's Karabakh bureau reports.
Around 40 travelers from 13 countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, visited Azykh Cave, located in the Khojavend district.
The travelers were informed about the historical and archaeological significance of the cave.
It was noted that Azykh Cave is one of the largest limestone caves in the South Caucasus and one of the oldest human settlements in Eurasia.
It was also noted that Azykh Cave, together with Taghlar Cave, was included in UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List in 2021.
The travelers were also informed about archaeological research conducted in the cave during the occupation period. It was stated that since 2002, excavations had been carried out in the cave without Azerbaijan's consent, with the participation of Armenian archaeologists and foreign researchers, and that the findings had been taken to Armenia.
The travelers have departed for the city of Shusha. They are also scheduled to visit the city of Aghdam during the day.
