Advanced management technologies will be implemented in Azerbaijan's energy system, APA-Economics reports.
To facilitate the integration of newly established renewable energy sources into the grid, align management with global standards, and strengthen the resilience of the energy system, "AzərEnerji" JSC has launched a new project in collaboration with the U.S. company SEL (Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories).
Within the framework of the project, WAMS – Wide Area Monitoring System and WACS – Wide Area Control System technologies will be implemented in Azerbaijan.
In the first phase, 27 special measurement devices – PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) will be installed at main power plants and key substation nodes. These devices will accurately measure voltage, current, and frequency in real-time and transmit the data to a central server. This will enable online monitoring of both Azerbaijan's energy system and its energy connections with Russia, Georgia, and Iran. This technology will help detect accident risks in a timely manner and prevent their escalation.
