Out of 16,294 candidates who returned signature sheets, 16,238 have registered their candidacies regarding municipal elections in Azerbaijan, Azerbauijan's CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov said at a press conference held at the Central Election Commission today, APA reports.
The CEC Chairman said that 99.7% of those who returned signature sheets were registered: "This is a very large number. In the subsequent processes, some of them withdrew their candidacies, and in the end, the names of 16,092 people were included in the ballot papers and registered as candidates.
Mazahir Panahov noted that more than half of the candidates are representatives of political parties: "Of the candidates included in the ballot, 8,424 are representatives of political parties. In total, more than 31% of those registered are women. This is a pleasing fact. 82% of the candidates have higher education. At the same time, approximately 41% of the candidates are between the ages of 21-35."
