Avenue named after Heydar Aliyev opened in Hadera, Israel

Mayor of Hadera Haim Avitan said in the opening ceremony that the founder of independent Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev is living in memories as a just and humane head of state in the history of the world. Heydar Aliyev did not differentiate between nations in Azerbaijan. As a result of it, Azerbaijan is known as the most tolerant country of the world.
“The street, where this park is located, is named after Herzl, the founder of the Jewish state. We are pleased that the park named after the leader Heydar Aliyev, close friend of the Jewish people, has been opened in this street. We are proud that the name of the world famous political figure Heydar Aliyev is perpetuated in Hadera,” he said.

A music school will be opened, complex established near Heydar Aliyev park in that street.
“This is the foundation of the friendship between Azerbaijan and Hadera,” he said.

Mayor expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for continuing the political course of the national leader Heydar Aliyev and said the friendship will further develop.

For the decision to perpetuate the memory of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, chairman of the State Committee for Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov thanked on behalf of the Azerbaijani government to Foreign Minister Abigdor Lieberman, mayor of Hadera Haim Avitan and the city population. He said the opening of the avenue will help strengthen the friendship, extend cooperation between our nations.

Nazim Ibrahimov said national leader Heydar Aliyev had significant merits in the strengthening of the tolerance in the country.
“Thanks to Heydar Aliyev’s attention and care, the cultural heritage of the Jewish community having ancient traditions has been preserved by the state. As a result of this attention and care, Hebrew department was opened in the Oriental Studies faculty of Baku State University. Ethnography Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Russia’s Foundation for Protection and Development of Jewish culture prepared the book “Jews in Azerbaijan”,” he said.

Chairman of the State Committee for Diaspora said seven Jewish religious communities were registered in Azerbaijan.
“Memorial boards are preserved in the buildings where physician, Nobel Prize laureate Lev Landau, honored doctor of the republic Solomon Gusman, hero of war Albert Agarunov and other famous Jewish personalities lived. On the initiative of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, after 1996 two more synagogues were returned to the Jews. There are 3 synagogues in Baku, 1 in Oghuz and 1 in Guba. The synagogue opened in Baku in 2003 is the biggest synagogue in Europe. Nazim Ibrahimov said that there were Jewish cultural centers, religious communities and schools in Azerbaijan. First school of general education was opened in September, 2003”.

“National leader Heydar Aliyev always highly valued the role of Jewish community in the economic and social-cultural development of Azerbaijan” he said. To him, holding groundbreaking ceremony of the avenue, which bears the name of Heydar Aliyev - national leader of Azerbaijani people, is striking appearance of love to Azerbaijan and deep respect to national leader of Azerbaijani people: “Today President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev continue the historical traditions founded by great leader Heydar Aliyev successfully. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pursues the policy directed to strengthening of civil solidarity, which depends on mutual confidence, as well as maintaining tolerance in our country. I am sure that our joint, mutual activity will serve to strengthening of relations between Azerbaijani and Israeli nations”.

Deputy of Israeli Knesset Faina Kirshenbaum said that improvement of Azerbaijan-Israel relations should be good example during such stretching situation of political processes in the international arena: “Today perpetuation the name of Jewish people’s close friend, distinguished with his justice and humanism, Heydar Aliyev in Hadera city brings us together, strengthens our friendship. We are proud of perpetuation the name of such historical person as Heydar Aliyev”.

Then there was held groundbreaking ceremony of memorial plaque.

Remind that, on basis of Azerbaijan-Israel International Association’s appeal, Hadera City Municipality passed a decision on perpetuation the memory of national leader of Azerbaijani nation - Heydar Aliyev. Just according to this decision, groundbreaking ceremony of Heydar Aliyev’s memorial plaque was held in the central avenue of Hadera City and this avenue would bear the name of national leader of Azerbaijani people. Maintenance and restoration works will be conducted in the avenue. Note that, there is a big community of Azerbaijani ancestry living in Hadera City. This city is situated near Tal Aviv and rich with verdure. The avenue named after Heydar Aliyev is in the center of this city. MP Yevda Abramov, vice-mayor of 7 cities of Israel, chiefs of media organs in Azerbaijan and Jewish communities, officials of embassies of some countries accredited in Israel, as well as Jewess of Azerbaijani ancestry attended the opening ceremony of the avenue.

The event finished with the concert program of Azerbaijani and Israeli artists.
