Azerbaijan’s Khojaly and Czech Lidice towns sign Cooperation Protocol - <font color=red>PHOTO</font>

Baku – APA. Azeri-Czech Society, Azerbaijan State Committee for Diaspora Activity and Azerbaijan Embassy in Czech Republic organized a commemoration event on 18th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy at the Lidice Memorial Complex on February 26.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Czech Republic Tahir Tagizadeh, chairman of Azeri-Czech Society Elshan Nazarov, Director of Lidice Memorial Complex Milos Chervenci, Khojaly authority Vahid Aliyev laid flowers before the eternal fire in a memory of victims of Lidice tragedy.

Head of Lidice municipality Josef Klima said one of the newly-constructed streets of the city would be named Khojaly.

Heydar Aliyev Foundation presented photo-exhibition at the Lidice Museum. Then a workshop on Nagorno Karabakh conflict and a documentary about the Khojaly tragedy was shown.

Representatives of the Czech Senate, Turkish and CIS diplomats, Diaspora members and journalists attended the ceremony.

Armenian ambassador to Vienna Ashot Ovakimian sent protests to Lidice authorities, but Armenians couldn’t achieve their goals. Lidice and Khojaly signed the Cooperation Protocol.


Lidice was destroyed by Nazi Germany in 1942 and population of the town faced with a terror. Similarity between Khojaly and Lidice tragedies caused three-month series of events dedicated to 15th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy on February 26, 2007 at the Lidice Museum and Memorial Complex.
