The official spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, harshly criticized an Armenian journalist, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
During a briefing today, Zakharova urged the Armenian media representative, who asked her about the observed tension in Russia-Azerbaijan relations, the mutual calling of ambassadors to foreign ministries, and the alleged anti-Russia policy being pursued in Azerbaijan, not to ask absurd questions.
"You do not understand that, from the mouth of an Armenian media representative, the recall of Russia's ambassador to Azerbaijan or Azerbaijan's ambassador to Russia, or raising an issue related to the Russia-Azerbaijan bilateral agenda, seems absurd. I thought you would ask me about the 'Armenian genocide' statement made in Davos. How we build our bilateral relations with Azerbaijan, how the two countries solve existing problems, how have relations developed, and how we prevent difficulties in our relations — it is absurd for this to be asked by an Armenian media representative. Why do Armenian media representatives always ask Russian representatives about bilateral relations with other countries, not the Russia-Armenia problem? Azerbaijani media representatives do not do this. You can look at our past briefings. The questions from Azerbaijani media were related to our bilateral agenda. Of course, these questions also concerned the normalization process of Baku-Yerevan relations. However, Azerbaijani journalists are primarily interested in Russia-Azerbaijan bilateral relations or generally international agenda."
Nevertheless, Zakharova said that she could answer every question asked by the Armenian journalist. She repeated several points regarding these questions from a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs a few days ago.
