Major Asian stock indices post gains

Major stock indices in Asian markets posted gains on Monday, led by strong advances in Japanese and South Korean equities, APA reports.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose around 2%, while South Korea’s KOSPI gained about 3%. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan advanced 0.9%.

The gains were largely driven by technology and semiconductor stocks. Strong US employment data also boosted optimism about the global growth outlook, although it increased expectations that the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates.

Meanwhile, rising oil prices amid tensions between the United States and Iran remain a source of concern for investors due to their potential impact on inflation. Brent crude traded above $96 per barrel, while US crude stood above $91.

Investors are also awaiting US inflation data due later this week, which could provide further signals about the Federal Reserve’s next monetary policy decision.
