The initiatives established in Baku within the framework of COP29 have already developed into a substantial and sustainable process, and Baku Climate Week is a continuation of the work carried out in this direction, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said during his speech at the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, APA reports.
The minister said that amid new energy realities, identifying optimal solutions and building a sustainable energy system are of great importance.
Parviz Shahbazov noted that the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29 are highly important and that the country continues its activities in this direction: “Already, 64 countries have undertaken commitments related to green energy,” he said.
The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan is promoting the establishment of a sustainable energy system. He said that a sixfold increase in wind energy production is expected by the end of this year, while significant growth in solar energy is also projected by the end of next year.
Parviz Shahbazov finally emphasized that the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions are considered key areas for developing Azerbaijan’s green energy potential: “One of the main goals ahead is to deliver the green energy produced in these regions to international markets. One of our main objectives is to direct green energy to Nakhchivan via the Zangezur corridor, and from there to the Turkish and European markets,” he said.
