Nepal Flash flood death toll rises to 1,344; around 5,000 remain missing

In Nepal, the death toll from the devastating flash floods stands at 1,344, while around 5,000 people, including nearly 590 foreign nationals, remain missing, APA reports.

More than 13,100 people have been rescued so far. A 60-year-old woman was rescued alive after being trapped under mud and debris for 10 days in Nuwakot district.

Authorities are facing difficulties in identifying the deceased, with DNA testing being used in several cases. Police have preserved the remains of 222 women, 355 men and 453 unidentified persons after collecting necessary identification markers. Details of 1,270 unidentified bodies have also been published on the Nepal Police website to help families verify their relatives. Around 7,912 police personnel remain deployed in the affected areas for rescue, relief distribution, body management and road clearance.
