The Mecca agreement shows that the approach of regional countries to security has changed. There is no reason for us to be concerned about this agreement,  Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on the Mecca agreement at a press conference, APA's Tehran bureau reports.

Baghaei said that, in general, this development shows that the approach of regional countries to security has changed.

"They have realized that security is not a commodity that can be purchased. Iran's policy has been to encourage regional countries to cooperate and strengthen internal security without relying on external actors. Attention should be paid to this change," he said.

He added that, since October three years ago and the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, as well as the attacks by the Israeli regime, the countries of the region have identified who poses the greatest threat to the stability and security of the global community.

Baghaei said that the ambitions of the Israeli regime are no secret.

"The regime's attacks against Lebanon, Palestine and Syria, as well as its threats against countries in the region, show that regional countries can no longer rely, as they did before, on the claim that security will be provided by the United States," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted.

Baghaei recalled that the United States itself is one of the parties contributing to the disruption of security in the region.

"The Israeli regime could not have carried out its crimes without the support of the United States. We believe that security in the region is indivisible. Any plan that correctly identifies the enemy and the threat can contribute to strengthening security," he said.

Baghaei then noted that Iran has extensive relations with the three neighboring countries.

"The friendship between the peoples of Iran and Türkiye has historical, religious and cultural roots, and these relations are long-standing," he emphasized.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that Tehran had been aware of the agreement to some extent: "There is no reason for us to be concerned about this agreement."
